Flex Power partners with Renesas

Power conversion company Flex Power Modules has announced a partnership with Renesas to pioneer next generation of board-mounted power management solutions for CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, and accelerator cards that support AI workloads.
“By integrating our latest generation of smart power stages with Flex Power Modules’ advanced design capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to offer high-performance solutions to our customers that significantly enhance the speed of design cycles, save PCB space, and reduce costs,” said Tom Truman, VP of performance computing power at Renesas.
“Our collaboration with Renesas will enable the rapid delivery of state-of-the-art power solutions at scale,” said Chris Butler, president of embedded and critical power, Flex. “Processor-level power innovation is the first step to deliver on rapidly evolving compute requirements and key to Flex’s portfolio of manufacturing, grid-to-chip power products and services that support data centre expansion.”
The collaboration aims to harnesses the strengths of both companies to expand Flex’s vertical power delivery (VPD) portfolio. According to Flex, the VPD products maximise efficiency, improve transient response, and optimise thermal performance of data centre processors to meet the demanding power needs of AI. In addition, Renesas will add two-phase power towers jointly developed by the two companies to its existing power tower portfolio.
The new solutions integrate technologies from both companies, combining joint design expertise and Flex’s manufacturing capabilities to scale delivery through Renesas channels.
The two companies will also collaborate on other high-density power modules that integrate Renesas smart power stages into high-efficiency DC/DC converters from Flex Power Modules. These modules will pair with Renesas’s latest digital multi-phase controllers to support configurations from two-phase up to 32-phase to meet the power specifications of any rail.
