Onsemi and Schaeffler expand SiC collaboration

News
Traction inverter solution will use EliteSiC for longer driving range in plug-in hybrid EVs

Onsemi has expanded collaboration with motion technology company Schaeffler (formerly Vitesco Technologies) through a new design-win around EliteSiC MOSFETs.

The Onsemi SiC solution will power the Schaeffler traction inverter for a global carmaker’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) platform.

Onsemi says that compared to other SiC solutions in its class, EliteSiC technology offers the lowest on-state resistance to provide highest peak power. And that these benefits will allow Schaeffler to deliver a traction inverter system that offers longer driving range, enhanced reliability and optimised form factor.

“The traction inverter is at the heart of every electrified drivetrain, and Onsemi’s EliteSiC solution plays a vital role in achieving the efficiency and performance targets that our customer demands,” said Christopher Breitsameter, head of business division controls at Schaeffler.

This announcement builds on an existing multi-year long-term collaboration between the two companies.
