Richardson to supply Pakal IGTO(t) power switches

Distributor Richardson Electronics has announced a technology partner agreement with Pakal Technologies, a US-based silicon power semiconductor company, to supply customers with Pakal’s 650V and 1200V silicon-based IGTO(t) power switches.
Pakal Technologies' IGTO(t) Insulated Gate Turn-Off thyristor technology is claimed to be the first new high-voltage silicon power semiconductor to be released since the IGBT was introduced 40 years ago.
IGTO(t) devices are direct drop-in upgrades for modern IGBTs and are said to offer up to 30 percent lower conduction losses with high frequency switching and improved thermal performance (along with cost-effective silicon pricing).
IGTO devices are suitable for electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems, welding, solar, ANPC 3-level topology, robotics, induction heating, and industrial power conversion.
Pakal’s initial commercial shipments are underway for its 650 V and 1200V IGTO(t) products in various current and package formats.
