Gate-drive transformers with EP7 core

To enable secondary-sided MOSFETs to be activated, synchronously aligned flyback converters must be fitted with galvanically insulated gate-drive transformers. Wuerth Elektronik is now extending its WE-GDT series by adding gate-drive transformers in the EP7 design.

The galvanic insulation enables MOSFETs to be activated under conditions of high insulation voltages of up to 2500 V. The construction is equivalent to a basic insulation for operating voltages of 250 Vrms according to EN61558-2-16. It guarantees a test voltage of 2500 VAC between the primary and secondary windings.

The Vµs product in this series is 70% higher than that in the al¬ready available WE-GDT series, thus enabling secondary-sided MOSFETs to be activated swiftly. The EP7 core acts as a shield against external magnetic fields and at the same time also reduces its own radiated magnetic field, thus diminishing the electromagnetic emission of the end application.
