Powder composites with low magnetostriction for high efficiency

SMP Sintermetalle Prometheus GmbH & Co KG (SMP), German manufacturer of inductive components is introducing at this year's Electronica in Munich, chokes for power electronics applications.
The company says the components are low-loss, have good EMC characteristics, high energy storage capacity and a space-efficient design. The components' cores consist of powder composites with low magnetostriction, which SMP engineers individually for each application. Beside power electronics, SMP's inductive components are used in industrial applications such as frequency converters, inverters for wind turbines, solar inverters, medical technology as well as railway applications.
Depending on their application, the components are designed either as single-conductor chokes for high-current applications, individual chokes, choke modules or LC filters. With their low eddy current and hysteresis losses, the materials contribute to the components' exceptional efficiency. The components can be produced for frequencies of up to 200 kHz and currents of up to 1000 amperes. Their sizes range from 36 mm to 300 mm diameter and their weight from 0,5 kg to 130 kg. Depending on the application, degrees of protection from IP00 to IP66 are available. All components are RoHS- and REACH-compliant and the materials used are UL-listed.
