Clas-SiC, the UK’s only commercial power SiC wafer fab, has announced that, effective 1st January 2024, its current CEO, Rae Hyndman, will assume a new role as a non-executive member of the board. Jen Walls, who is currently serving as Clas-SiC’s COO, will assume the role of CEO.

Executive chairman, Carl Johnson said: “As a founding member of the business in 2017, Rae was not only an integral part of the company formation but, since taking over as its managing director three years ago, she has played a key role in leading the company to its unique position in today’s SiC global market. The Clas-SiC board recognises Rae’s large contributions in terms of leadership and execution, and the importance of continuity that she will foster in her new role”.

Walls, who is currently serving as Clas-SiC’s COO, will assume the role of CEO. Walls, who is currently leading Clas-SiC’s senior management team, joined the company in July 2023. She has over 30 years of semiconductor industry experience serving in multiple technical, engineering, technology leadership and management positions during this time. Carl Johnson added, “We are confident that Jen Walls and our Ssenior management team, will successfully lead Clas-SiC through the next segment of the company’s growth and evolution.”

The company is currently exploring external investment opportunities to increase
its capacity to 2.5 times existing levels. If successful, the company would undertake an 18-month investment plan of £20-£25m in new capital expenditures and facility expansion which would also increase employment by a further 25 percent.
