Reliable power enabled from solar rooftop plant at Bangkok Glass

News

ABB’s string inverter supports launch of largest solar rooftop installation in Thailand for self-consumption

Bangkok Glass Public Company (BG) has drawn on the support of ABB to further expand its alternative energy supplies, with the opening of a 5 megawatts solar rooftop facility at its factory in Ayutthaya province, Thailand.

To help the customer achieve its requirements of lowering electricity costs while improving business competitiveness, ABB has provided 80 units of Trio 50.0-TL string inverters, including supervision for installation and commissioning through its EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) - Gunkul Engineering PCL, the leading provider of renewable energy in Thailand. The rooftop PV system has been in operation since February 2018.

The TRIO-50.0 is ABB’s three-phase string inverter solution for cost-efficient large decentralized photovoltaic systems, for both commercial and utility-scale applications. It combines the performance and price advantage of a central inverter with the flexibility and ease of installation of a string inverter. With its landscape modular design, it guarantees maximum installation flexibility and quick maintenance.

“To fulfill the needs of the customer, we delivered an integrated technology and service solution which optimizes the performance, reliability and return on investment of any solar installation. Bangkok Glass can utilize this rooftop solar plant not only to lower their operating costs but also to improve their environmental profile,” said Burapa Laohalatanaviboon, ABB Sales Manager for Power and EV Infrastructure.

Bangkok Glass Public Company Limited, the leader in glass packaging manufacturers in Thailand, is trusted by its domestic and overseas customers for the quality of the products and the technology incorporated into its production. With five manufacturing plants, BG is considered to be the largest manufacturer of glass containers both in Thailand and the ASEAN region.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand has so far been the leading country in promoting solar power in large utility-scale applications with government subsidies. With a further shift to solar now expected, Thailand is in an advantageous position to ride this renewable energy trend and become a center for solar PV technology in the region.
