Fronius storage solutions is growing

News

In 2018, Fronius Solar Energy will be launching a new Fronius Energy Package. This comprises an inverter, the Fronius Checkbox and a storage unit from LG "“ the ideal solution for price- and quality-conscious system owners. Fronius is also continuing its research in the field of energy sector integration, and plans to commission a pilot system in which green hydrogen will be generated from solar energy in the second quarter of 2018.

In order to make the vision of 24 hours of sun "“ a future in which 100% of the world's energy needs are covered by renewable sources "“ a reality, system owners must be able to store solar energy efficiently, thus making it usable at any time. Fronius's range of storage units offers tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of the customer. "We provide users with a wide range of options and supply them with a system that meets their exact requirements," explains Martin Hackl, Head of the Business Unit Solar Energy at Fronius International GmbH. The Fronius Ohmpilot consumption regulator for hot water preparation is an affordable first step into the Fronius world of storage units. This intelligent energy management solution uses surplus energy to activate and coordinate consumers such as heating elements, heat pumps or infra-red heaters.

Fronius Energy Package upgraded with LG battery

To make storing solar energy even easier, Fronius will be offering its Energy Package in combination with the LG Chem RESU H1 battery as of this spring. This complete package is extremely cost-efficient compared to other systems, with no compromises on operational reliability. The system will be available almost everywhere in Europe and Australia.

Energy Package with Solar Battery offers a high degree of modularity and a reliable emergency power mode

Already successfully established on the market, the Fronius Energy Package with Fronius Solar Battery has a modular design and can be easily upgraded as required. Operators of photovoltaic systems also benefit from the reliable, three-phase emergency power mode, which supplies the household with energy even in the event of a power failure.

Hydrogen opens up new possibilities

Hydrogen technology also plays a key role in making the vision of 24 hours of sun a reality. This technology makes it possible to further integrate the electricity, heat and mobility sectors and thus drive forward the use of renewable energies and the associated decarbonisation of our energy system. "We have already conducted intensive research in this field and are developing suitable solutions," emphasises Thomas Ruehrlinger, Business Development Hydrogen Solutions. Fronius is currently building a pilot system at its premises in Thalheim in which green hydrogen will be generated from solar energy. This will then be available for refuelling cars equipped with fuel cells at the site. Furthermore, surplus hydrogen can be converted back into electricity and heat, making seasonal storage possible. The use of such infrastructure solutions will be particularly attractive to commercial enterprises, businesses and municipalities in the future.

Outlook for the coming year

"We have a lot planned for 2018," concludes Head of the Business Unit Martin Hackl. "In addition to expanding our range of storage units to include the Fronius Energy Package with LG storage solution, we are also working hard to ensure solar energy is used even more efficiently. In the field of energy sector integration, in other words combining electricity, heat and mobility, we are offering our customers comprehensive system solutions that allow them to use their self-generated energy to the fullest extent possible." With the Fronius Smart Meter and Fronius Solar.web, users also benefit from clear system visualisation. This means that components can be better matched, and the overall system can be made more energy-efficient. "Our research efforts in the field of hydrogen and e-mobility complete our offering," adds Hackl.
